This article addresses the problems with Afi G Suite Backup application installation. In case of problems with Afi Office 365 Backup installation please refer to the following article.
To protect your Google Workspace account, you need to install Afi application from Google Workspace Marketplace. After Afi application is installed, it might take up to 24 hours before access rights are propagated and the application starts working properly. During this time the application will show the following message - "After application is installed it may take up to 24 hours before access is granted to the application. This page will be automatically refreshed to check the access".
If for any reason Afi application doesn't start working properly after 24 hours then the following should be checked:
- if Afi application is installed and has access to your Google Workspace account;
- if Google Workspace domain onboarding is initiated by a Google Workspace Super admin;
- if Afi application is enabled for all organizational unit(s) (or there is at least one Google Workspace Super Admin user in the organizational unit(s) where the application is enabled);
- if third-party API access is enabled in Google Workspace administrator panel.
How to check if Afi application is installed and has access to Google Workspace account
You can check if Afi application is installed at the Afi G Suite Backup page in the Google Workspace Marketplace (while on the page please make sure that you are logged in as a Google Workspace account Super Admin).
If Afi application is installed, the next step is to check application installation settings in Google Workspace Admin panel. To check installation settings please login to Google Workspace Admin panel, go to Apps → Google Workspace Marketplace apps -> Apps list and click on Afi G Suite Backup application in the list:
On the application configuration page please make sure that application is enabled for all organizational units and data access is granted.
If for security reasons you still need to limit the application installation only to specific organizational units, please make sure that at least one organizational unit where the application is installed has a Google Super Admin user among its members. Afi needs to impersonate under Google Super Admin user to list users and drives in the domain during account setup.
How to check if third-party API access is enabled in Google Workspace administrator panel
To check if third-party applications can access your Google Workspace account, please go to Security -> API controls and make sure that checkbox "Block all third-party API access" in Settings is unchecked.
Re-installing application to trigger access rights propagation
If previous steps didn't help, it is recommended to uninstall Afi application and install it again. This triggers Google Workspace access rights propagation and should help if previous steps didn't work.
a. To uninstall Afi application go to Apps → Google Workspace Marketplace apps -> Apps list, then click on the application name.
b. Uninstall the application by clicking on the bucket icon, then install it again from the Marketplace.
